Students spent 4th quarter learning all about CLAY!!! Each grade level focused on new techniques and skills when using and sculpting with clay. Kindergarten learned about the basics of clay, where it comes from, how it is fired. They created a texture medallion necklace. 1st graders worked on their pinch pot building skills, using their hands and fingers to mold to the clay into a pot. In the fall they created a pinch pot pumpkin, and for the spring a Georgia O'Keeffe flower just in time for Mother's Day! 2nd graders learned about coils, pressing clay flat with palms, pinching clay to shape points, and creating texture while exploring all the clay tools. 3rd graders put together a pinch pot, flattened top, and texture to create a clay cupcake. 4th graders focused on attaching clay together with scratching, scoring, and adding slip to create a beautiful bird of paradise. Lastly the 5th graders used their clay slabs to create a Picasso inspired cubist mask!
