SD308 ART CURRICULUM
PHILOSOPHY
The elementary art program will place emphasis upon the development of the individual as a creative and visually-literate person.
Art Criticism . Art History . Aesthetics . Art Production
Students will gain an appreciation for art, see how art has taught us about our past, learn the value of art, and learn art techniques and processes. Art is a necessary part of the development of the elementary child and will be taught by an Art Specialist in a separate art room.
OBJECTIVES

3. To provide a knowledge of art skills and art vocabulary
4. To develop a relationship between art and daily living
5. To develop an understanding of art and civilizations, past and present
6. To foster creative thinking
7. To develop manual dexterity
8. To provide experiences not taught in the regular classroom
SCOPE & SEQUENCE
This curriculum is designed as a cumulative process. Over the five-year learning period, concepts and skills are developed frpm identification and recognition to complex applications. Succeeding levels build on previous learning.

GRADING
Evaluation of skills and knowledge in the arts will be based on the following:
E = Student consistently exceeds the required level of mastery of skills and concepts set forth by the art teacher and the district curriculum
S = Student consistently meets the required level of mastery of skills and concepts set forth by the art teacher and the district curriculum
N = Student is developing the skills necessary for mastery of the skills and concepts set forth by the art teacher and the district curriculum

- Learn Elements and Principles of Art (See "Basic Art Info" tab)
- Learn to use art tools and materials: glue, scissors, paper, pencil/crayon, paint/brushes, pastels, printmaking tools, weaving materials, clay
- Learn art production abilities: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Fiber Arts, 3-D Form
- Connect art to school, community, and daily life: Artsonia Online Art Gallery, Various out of school Art Exhibits, Art Displays at School
- Integration of the fine arts: Cross-curricular projects to regular education classrooms/specials
- Value art into its historical and cultural context: art appreciation, exposure to Masterworks, exposure to art from a variety of cultures
